Huntingdonshire Parishes - Colne

 

Brief Description:

COLNE, a parish in the hundred of HURSTINGSTONE, county of HUNTINGDON, 2¼ miles (S.E. by S.) from Sornersham, containing 480 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the rectory of Somersham, in the archdeaconry of Huntingdon, and diocese of Lincoln. The church, dedicated to St. Helen, is in the early style of English architecture, with a western tower; it contains some remains of figures and armorial bearings in stained glass, and is situated about half a mile from the village.

Colne was originally in the St. Ives Registration District from 1st July 1837. Subsequently, it was in the Somersham sub-District. From 1st April 1997, it came directly under the Huntingdon Registration District.
